What are some of the different decorating trends?
Traditional

Traditional style expresses the grace, beauty and elegance of an era gone
by. Rich materials including darker woods, damask fabrics, accents of
silver, fine china and glassware dominate this look. Artwork that fits in
with a traditional home can vary widely. Landscapes, and botanicals all
fit in very comfortably with this luxurious style.
Country

County is an enormously popular style based on the universal love for casual
living. Elements used in a country style home are usually wood or tile,
featuring worn, rustic, or distressed finishes. Different countries have
slightly different accents to this style - for example, French Country makes use
of fabric with small brightly colored provincial patterns. Folk art, Americana
and scenes of rural life are an integral part of any county style home.

Contemporary

Clean and uncluttered, the contemporary style appeals to the desire for
refinement and order in the home or office. Preferred materials are glass,
metal, and simply treated wood. Inspirations come from the simple wood and
finishes of Shaker furniture design, modern Scandinavian design, and twentieth
century shapes and color. Artwork for contemporary style spaces
includes photography, abstract art, Asian art, and the bright
interpretations that put a twist on classic images, a style that is very popular
today.
Earthly Origins

This broad category is inspired by the earth and its most basic elements of
stone, flora, water, and sky. This style can also draw from the ethnic arts that
native peoples have developed over the centuries, applying influences from their
cultures and geographic regions. In either definition, you get an exotic look
that is filled with earth tones, textures, spiritual and nature
inspired imagery. Artwork from people all around the world - in whatever
form - suits this category as the appreciation and respect for multicultural art
forms grows.
Gentleman's Retreat

This look is meant to appeal to men and women who do not necessarily want the
rustic look of a lodge, but rather prefer the comfort and elegance reminiscent
of a 19th century English-style den or library. The colors are deeper, the woods
darker and polished. Darker metals are used, with accessories that are simple
and elegant. Artwork for these rooms typically has masculine themes - African
animals, cigars, sports, landscapes and still lives.
Retro
The modern whimsical designs of the postwar 1950's and 1960's is relived in
furniture and designs termed "retro". Resurgence of the shapes and colors of
this time, such as black and white, metallic and glass are the key indicators of
this look. Artwork that fits in with retro is reminiscent of this time either in
color or subject matter.
Vintage
The Vintage look capitalizes on the worn-in elegance of inspiring images from
the past. This look draws on the romanticism of faded rose fabrics, wicker
furniture and cups of tea - all of very fine quality. Large florals (not too
bright) and soothing landscapes help to recreate the feelings of a refined era
and the simple joys in life.
Juvenile
Today's parents are spending more time than ever to create special rooms for
their children. The array of new, high-quality furnishings available has made it
possible to bring beauty into juvenile decor. Artwork for children makes use of
a pastel or bright, primary color palette. Familiar stories and images make wall
decor fun and educational too!
