Celebrating Hua Mei by John Seerey-Lester

When the panda named Hua Mei was born in captivity at The San Diego Zoo on August 21, 1999, Seerey-Lester went to see her:

"I based my painting on the panda at about 3 months of age. Hua Mei (pronounced Hwa May) means 'China USA,' symbolizing the partnership between these two countries as they work together to bring the giant panda back from the brink of extinction. Hua Mei survived the first critical months and is now celebrating her first birthday. We wish Hua Mei a long and happy life."
