"Into the Stillness"

" I chose a panoramic format to depict this magnificent landscape. Southeast Alaska is rich with beauty and diverse wildlife. It's my favorite part of the state, and I feel that it offers endless artistic inspiration. The pod complemented the long format of the composition and enhances the serenity and overall mood of Into the Stillness. Essentially, this piece is a landscape with the whales serving as a focal point.

Orcas live in all oceans and adjoining seas of the world, but chiefly in coastal waters and cooler regions such as this. They possess large complex brains and all of the human senses, except the sense of smell. Orcas have a life span of about 60 years and no predators, other than man, whom they seem to regard with a sense of curiosity."
